Tricholoma matsutake information

Description

Tricholoma matsutake (commonly “Matsutake”) is one of the most economically important edible ectomycorrhizal mushrooms in the world. Fruit bodies of T. matsutake develop on “shiro”, namely, mycelial aggregations in association with mycorrhizal roots and soil particles in well-drained and nutrient-poor forest soil. Despite decades of attempts to produce fruiting bodies of T. matsutake, there is still no success in artificial cultivation of those. Recently, the production of wild fruiting bodies of T. matsutake has been drastically decreasing; possibly due to pine wilt disease and/or modern forestry management practices. T. matsutake genome database will provide us useful information on genetics, molecular biology and bioinformatics, etc., in order to understand the nature of T. matsutake for its artificial cultivation.
